“Seriously, what were you thinking!?”
“How could you make such a choice!?”
“Did you even consider the consequences!?”
“Are you out of your mind!?”

NO. NO. NO.

It’s crucial that you don’t respond to your child in anger or frustration after a poor decision. While you might feel the urge to unleash your feelings, it’s your responsibility to transform this moment into an opportunity for growth and learning. If you fail to guide your child to a lesson from their mistake, you’ll only be adding to the misstep.

How should I address my child following their error?

Probably with words I shouldn’t utter.
Probably things I might regret later.
Definitely some statements that will make me feel guilty.

But I’m hoping to do better. In anticipation of moments I wish to avoid but know will arise, I’ve prepared a heartfelt message that I hope to remember when the time comes.
