The student activists from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have found themselves thrust into the public eye, a reality they likely never anticipated before they reached voting age. They certainly never imagined that their school would become a focal point after one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.
Since the Parkland shooting survivors began advocating for stricter gun laws and an end to school shootings, they have faced intense scrutiny online. Unfortunately, their rise to prominence has attracted a wave of criticism from internet trolls who seem oblivious to the fact that these young activists are merely children—traumatized children at that.

It’s hard to fathom how despicable these attacks are, especially over completely fabricated content. Most teenagers today are adept at spotting misinformation, and it’s evident that these young advocates are far more informed than the adults resorting to such petty tactics.
While the fake footage of Emma is just a small portion of the grotesque online bullying aimed at these students, it highlights a troubling trend: adults are targeting these articulate teens who simply ask for change. Thankfully, amidst the vile attacks, the Parkland student activists have garnered support from many compassionate adults who recognize the importance of their work.
