What I Wish I Could Tell My High School Self

Do you remember the stunning girls who seemed to have it all during high school? They were graceful, talented, and exuded confidence as they basked in the admiration of their peers. However, if you looked a little closer, you would see a diverse cast of characters in the background, each with their own unique stories.

That’s where I found myself—firmly in the background. I yearned for a leading role, but anxiety, self-doubt, and awkwardness kept me from stepping into the spotlight. If only I could break through that metaphorical wall and have a heart-to-heart with my high school self. There’s so much I would want to explain.

The Popular Girls

First of all, those popular girls? They really don’t add much to your overall narrative. In the grand scheme of things, they will become minor characters in your life story, which truly begins to unfold after they exit the stage. They may pop back in occasionally, but their presence will only highlight how little they matter in the larger narrative of your life.

The Villains

And let’s not forget the villains. Every story needs them, right? These antagonists often seem to thrive on creating turmoil. It’s tough to watch your peers idolize someone who is intent on making your life miserable. Even as an adult, just hearing their names can send a wave of anxiety through you. But remember, karma is a powerful force. One day, you’ll rise above them and witness their lives take unfortunate turns, which can be oddly satisfying.

Social Hierarchy

Your position in the social hierarchy is inconsequential. Achievements in sports, academics, or popularity will have minimal influence on your future. Your story won’t change because you didn’t make the varsity team or earn the highest GPA. Prioritizing your physical, mental, and emotional health will be the real game-changer.

Embrace Authenticity

Focus on what brings you joy. Making choices based on how others perceive you will only lead to dissatisfaction. Embrace who you are, and don’t be afraid to share your true self with the world. This authenticity might just encourage others to do the same.

Your Extraordinary Journey

The most important message I wish I could convey to my younger self is that her personal journey turns out to be extraordinary. She will learn to write her own narrative and become the leading lady she always dreamed of being.

Summary

Reflecting on high school, I wish I could share with my younger self that the popular girls and villains don’t define her worth. Achievements in school and social status will fade in importance, while personal happiness and authenticity will lead to a fulfilling life. Ultimately, she will become the leading lady of her own story.
