When actress Mia Thompson teamed up with interior designer and reality TV star Samantha Lee, the result was an exquisitely stylish nursery line that we can’t help but adore.
A few weeks back, we attended the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas, inundated with an array of baby gear, maternity fashion, and nursery decor. Among the many brands, one that truly captured our attention was PetitNest. Not only do we appreciate its chic, modern approach to everything from crib bedding to nursery furniture (you’ll wish they designed pieces for other rooms in your home), but the backstory of how this brand was created is equally fascinating. Check out our quick Q&A with the dynamic duo behind it—Mia Thompson and Samantha Lee—and don’t miss the slideshow featuring images of their stunning collection from the ABC Expo.
Q&A with Mia and Samantha:
Q: How did you two first meet?
Mia: Samantha and I crossed paths on a show called Design Challenge on HGTV. My home was selected for a feature, and Samantha was assigned to redesign one of our rooms. The surprise element of the show meant we didn’t know what to expect. When my partner and I returned to see the transformation she made, we were absolutely thrilled with both the room and with Samantha herself. We quickly became friends and had her redesign more areas in our home, including the nursery.
Q: What inspired you to create PetitNest?
Mia: While we were working on the nursery design during my pregnancy, we noticed a gap in the market for nursery furniture that was more stylish and aligned with our tastes. We wanted to break away from the usual, traditional baby furniture that seemed to dominate the space. That’s how PetitNest was born.
Q: How long did it take to develop the line?
Samantha: The design process moved swiftly, but navigating manufacturing regulations and selecting fabrics took some time. Overall, we launched the brand in under six months and we’ve been on a roll since!
Q: What advice would you give to expectant mothers looking to create a personalized nursery?
Samantha: One key piece is a comfortable glider. You’ll spend a lot of time in it, so find one you love that’s easy to clean. Also, remember that your design style can extend beyond the nursery door. We aimed for a timeless, elegant, and modern feel with PetitNest, ensuring the pieces are adaptable as the child grows, eliminating the need for constant furniture replacements.
