11 Realities of Raising Three Kids in Just Three Years

Recently, while out with my one- and two-year-old, another mother remarked on my pregnancy with a third child and said I was really in the thick of it. You can’t have three little ones in three years without receiving plenty of well-intentioned comments. I chuckled, but she had a point—I am right in the midst of it all, and surprisingly, I enjoy it.

1. Doctor Appointments Galore

Between routine check-ups for the kids, unexpected sick visits, follow-ups with the ENT, my prenatal visits, and ultrasounds for the newborn, my calendar is packed. I’m looking forward to the days of organized sports and after-school programs!

2. Potty Training Adventures

My two-year-old is beginning to communicate when he’s using his pull-up, while my one-year-old had an amusing mishap, walking through her own mess on the hardwood floor. Small victories, right?

3. Toddler Tantrums

The emotional rollercoaster that comes with toddlers is intense. Thankfully, I can rely on tunes from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood to help me navigate these moments: “If you feel so mad that you want to roar, take a deep breath, and count to four!”

4. Decision-Making

Every day presents a series of choices, whether they’re trivial or significant, and I often find myself second-guessing my decisions.

5. Exhaustion

I’m perpetually worn out—physically, mentally, and emotionally. There’s a never-ending list of things to clean, remember, and manage.

6. Constant Touch

Leaving the house without getting covered in snot, jelly, or apple juice is nearly impossible. I’ve come to embrace this “lived-in” style.

7. An Ever-Present Audience

As a mom, personal space is a myth. There’s always commentary about my body parts, especially when I try to sneak in a shower or bathroom break.

8. Referee Duties

I often find myself mediating disputes: “Can you just play with those 17 trucks while your sister has this one? I’ll put on Paw Patrol if you eat one more chicken nugget. You’ll go to time out if you swing that golf club at your sister again!”

9. Sweet Compliments

When my two-year-old tells me I’m the prettiest mom, it’s hard not to feel like a celebrity. Their admiration is heartwarming.

10. Big Kisses

I’m showered with slobbery kisses all day long. It’s a miracle I don’t get sick more often!

11. Cherished Snuggles

These moments of cuddling and affection won’t last forever. They won’t always want to curl up on my lap to read or ask me to tickle them. I can’t help but wonder what I’ll do when these moments eventually fade.

For now, I’m more than happy to revel in this beautiful chaos as long as they’ll let me. If you’re curious about starting your journey, check out this helpful resource on home insemination kits. Summary:

Navigating life with three babies in three years is a whirlwind of doctor appointments, potty training, and toddler tantrums. Despite the exhaustion and lack of personal space, the small moments of joy from sweet compliments and snuggles make it all worthwhile. Embracing this chaotic yet fulfilling stage is a rewarding experience.
