As a dynamic duo immersed in the world of entrepreneurship, Chelsa and Dennis Crowley are no strangers to launching new projects. With Chelsa being the co-founder of Stowaway Cosmetics and Dennis having founded Foursquare, they are now preparing for their most significant venture yet: parenthood! Their first child, affectionately nicknamed “Lil’ Guac,” is expected to arrive on Chelsa’s due date of Cinco de Mayo. We caught up with the couple to hear how they are getting ready for this new chapter in their lives.

Chelsa’s Journey

I never really envisioned myself as a little girl dreaming about weddings or having kids. In fact, my dad, who was overjoyed when I finally settled down at age 32, often joked that he thought I was too independent to ever want children. Fast forward to now, I’m not just married but also 39 weeks along, and I’m embracing every surprise that’s come my way. While there are anxious moments, the majority are filled with excitement as I approach motherhood. When I broke the news to my mom, her reaction mirrored my dad’s when I announced my marriage—she was thrilled but never imagined I’d give up my independence for family life. (To be fair, I did tell her for years that she could count on my brother for grandkids!)

Despite my past beliefs, I’m genuinely thrilled about this new journey—more than I ever thought I could be. Maybe it’s my age, my stability, or simply that I’ve found the right partner to start a family with, but it all feels right. I’ve been fortunate to experience a smooth pregnancy without severe morning sickness or dramatic hormonal swings, just some occasional aches. I’ve continued to enjoy exercise, which has been a great outlet. Observing my body’s transformation has left me in awe of its capabilities.

I’ve been doing my best to prepare for what everyone tells me will be the biggest change of my life. However, I understand that no amount of preparation will fully equip me. My biggest worries revolve around my work. As the co-founder and creative director of Stowaway Cosmetics, I’ve poured my heart into this “first child” for years. Many people have mentioned how advantageous it is to run my own business, allowing me to create my own maternity leave plan and work on my own timeline. But honestly, I’m concerned about stepping away and its impact on my small team of six. I plan to keep up with emails and work from home when possible—yes, I might be checking my phone during those late-night feedings! But I know I’ll have to figure things out as they come.

Launching a business has taught me the importance of patience and adaptability, which will be essential as I navigate this new adventure of parenthood.
