In a remarkable display of resilience, Kelly Clarkson hosted the Billboard Music Awards while battling appendicitis. Just hours after taking the stage, she had her appendix removed, truly living by the mantra that “the show must go on.”
BuzzFeed journalist Alex Thompson shared the news on Twitter, which only heightened Clarkson’s fan admiration. “Kelly Clarkson has been suffering from appendicitis all week & had her appendix removed this morning — yet last night she flawlessly hosted an award show and sang two songs without showing any sign of discomfort,” Thompson wrote. “How can you not be a fan?!”
Although Clarkson typically shies away from the term “fan,” she couldn’t help but embrace it this time. She later revealed the experience was tough, admitting, “Not gonna lie…. I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain. BUT thanks to all the amazing people at Cedars-Sinai I flew home directly.”
