In a highly anticipated revival, Mark-Paul Gosselaar will once again don the iconic role of Zack Morris in the upcoming reboot of the beloved series, Saved By The Bell. The announcement, made by former cast members, has fans buzzing with excitement about the return of this classic character to Bayside High.

The reboot seeks to address contemporary issues as it follows Zack, who is now the governor of California. He finds himself in hot water after shutting down several low-income high schools and proposes sending the displaced students to the state’s top schools, including Bayside. Alongside Gosselaar, Tiffany-Amber Thiessen is reportedly in talks to reprise her role as Kelly Kapowski, although fans will sadly miss Dustin Diamond’s character Screech.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gosselaar’s involvement will span three episodes, and he will also serve as a producer for the show, which will be available on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Peacock. Initially, Gosselaar had expressed concern about scheduling conflicts with his role on ABC’s mixed-ish, which could limit his appearances in the reboot for now.

Joining the returning cast are Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez, while newcomer Josie Totah will take on the lead role of Lexi, a popular and sharp-witted cheerleader at Bayside. Lexi is characterized as both “admired and feared” by her peers, marking a significant addition to the show’s dynamic. Totah, who came out as transgender two years ago, has previously starred in NBC’s Champions and Disney Channel’s Jessie.

The first season of the new Saved By The Bell will consist of 10 episodes, as shared by Berkley on social media. While a release date has yet to be confirmed, Peacock is set to launch in April.
