President-elect Joe Biden’s beloved rescue dog, Major, is set to have a delightful celebration of his own: an “Indoguration” party on January 17. This festive occasion, organized by Major’s former shelter, the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) in Wilmington, will be streamed live for dog lovers everywhere to enjoy for a nominal fee.
“From shelter dog to First Dog, Major Biden is a testament to the belief that every pup can achieve the American dream,” the DHA stated. The event aims to commemorate Major’s journey while also raising funds to assist more shelter animals in finding their forever homes.
Event Details
The party, aptly named Major Biden’s Indoguration Party, will be hosted by TV personality Jill Martin and will feature a special appearance by Beaux and Paws, an initiative led by 14-year-old entrepreneur and animal advocate, Darius Green. Attendees can even nominate their dogs for a chance to become the “Secretary of Rescue Dogs.” The event also aspires to break the record for the largest virtual gathering of dogs.
“We’re excited to be part of what we hope will be the world’s biggest Zoom call for dogs,” said Patrick J. Carroll, DHA’s executive director. “2020 was a challenging year for shelters and pet owners, and we hope this event can help us connect more homeless animals with loving families. If a shelter dog can make it to the White House, then they can make it to anyone’s home!”
Major’s Journey
The Bidens adopted Major in November 2018, expressing their gratitude to the Delaware Humane Association for their role in finding him the perfect home. With Major moving to the White House alongside the Biden family’s other dog, Champ, he will make history as the first rescue dog to live there.
How to Participate
The Indoguration Party, co-hosted by Pumpkin Pet Insurance, is set for January 17 at 3 p.m. ET. Those interested in attending can RSVP on the DHA website, where a donation of $10 or more is requested to support the shelter’s efforts. So far, over $22,000 has been raised to help animals in need.
