The TikTok Generation is Making Fun of Our Side Parts and Skinny Jeans

Hey there, fellow Millennial moms! Have you recently slipped into a comfy pair of skinny jeans and ensured your side part looks flawless? If so, brace yourself because the TikTok generation thinks we’re out of touch with style. Yes, that’s right—the very kids whose WiFi and smartphones we pay for are calling us outdated in our flattering denim and sleek hairstyles. And honestly, I’m not about to take fashion tips from a bunch of kids who think scrunchies belong only on their wrists.

As someone in my late 30s, I sometimes feel like a relic on TikTok, surrounded by kids born after 2000—the year I graduated high school! But while I’m accustomed to feeling ancient on this platform, it’s a new low to be mocked for my cute skinny jeans and trendy side part. Who do these youngsters think they are? We’re the ones who raised them!

It’s a bit hurtful, honestly. They’re calling us out while we’re the ones footing the bill for their oversized jeans, questionable sneakers, and bizarre haircuts. However, despite their mockery, I refuse to give up my style. This is our signature look, and we wear it with pride. Proud member of OldTok, and I’m not going anywhere!

I took my daughter to the store recently to pick out some clothes, and guess what she was drooling over? High-waisted, acid-washed jeans that highlight the dreaded FUPA we all know too well. She came home wearing them with a center part, convinced she’s on top of the fashion game. Sure, each generation has its own style, but I’m here to remind you that we were the ones who rocked baggy jeans back in the late ’90s. Skinny is still the way to go—just wait until they experience the joys of post-pregnancy bodies in 15-20 years!

There are other signs of being “old” too, like taking selfies from below (which conveniently hides my double chin, you little rascals) and using the LOL-cry emoji. You’ll have to pry that one from my cold, dead hands! Enjoy your trends, kids, but always remember who paved the way for you—and who pays for your unlimited data.
