In response, the Sacramento Asian/Pacific Islander (API) Regional Network has launched a petition calling for accountability, which includes demands for a public apology, mandatory racism training for Burkett, and the implementation of a robust ethnic studies curriculum in the district. The petition highlights the alarming statistic that over 2,800 anti-Asian hate incidents have been reported in recent months.
