The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) reported on Twitter Friday evening that they were investigating a shooting involving multiple victims, some of whom sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. There was a significant police presence at the oceanfront area between 17th and 22nd Streets, and the public was urged to steer clear of the vicinity. The shootings were reported around 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of Atlantic Avenue, a popular resort area, as officers were patrolling the region.
Virginia Beach Police Chief Mark Johnson indicated that one victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the other individuals’ conditions ranged from serious to critical. Additionally, one police officer suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
