The film stars Ella Johnson as Emily Elizabeth and Max Thompson as her uncle Casey, showcasing the heartwarming relationship between Emily and her enormous red dog, gifted to her by an animal rescuer portrayed by John Cleese. The plot follows Emily and her adventurous uncle Casey as they navigate the bustling streets of New York City while her mother (played by Lara Mitchell) is away.
This adaptation of Norman Bridwell’s classic, which has been a staple since its first publication in 1963, isn’t the first, as an animated series has been delighting audiences on PBS since 2000. Directed by Walt Becker, the highly anticipated film trailer released in late June has garnered nearly 8 million views.
Paul Rodriguez, who plays a bodega owner, highlights the film’s diverse cast, which includes Latino and African American characters, and emphasizes that the story reflects a multicultural neighborhood.
