The wait is finally over! The first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections has officially landed, and it’s like an early holiday treat for all you devoted Keanu Reeves fans out there. (Which, let’s be honest, is pretty much everyone!) This long-anticipated trailer gives us a glimpse into the mind-bending world we’ve been missing.

Since Warner Bros. announced that all their 2021 films would simultaneously release on HBO Max and in theaters, the excitement around the fourth installment of the Matrix series has been palpable. After years of speculation, the project was confirmed in 2019, and now we have both a release date (December 22nd) and an enticing trailer that promises to captivate audiences.

The film reunites beloved characters such as Thomas Anderson (Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith), alongside a host of new faces, including Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Priyanka Chopra, and Christina Ricci. The trailer hints that Neo is struggling with his past, meeting Trinity again as if for the first time. NPH plays Neo’s therapist, and it’s clear that he’s lost all memory of what the “Matrix” is or how he escaped it.

According to an official description from Entertainment Weekly, this sequel promises “a mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind.”

Neo appears to be consuming a lot of blue pills, but soon faces the decision to take a red pill once again. And yes, there are plenty of chances for things to take a wild turn — and we are absolutely here for it!

With the original film debuting back in 1999 and the third film coming out 18 years ago, fans are eagerly anticipating their return to the Matrix, even if it means diving deeper down the rabbit hole than before. Unfortunately, it seems Laurence Fishburne will not reprise his role as Morpheus, but with Lana Wachowski directing and co-writing the film, it looks like the wait will be worth it, whether you choose to watch in theaters or from the comfort of your home.
