Many mothers have devoted countless hours—equivalent to 37 lifetimes—immersing themselves in the world of coloring alongside their children. If you’ve ever had the privilege of using a crayon that still has a bit of its wrapper intact, you might have noticed that children’s crayons often sport whimsical names that are strikingly descriptive: Think Brick Red, Spring Green, or Tickle Me Pink.
In contrast, the adult world tends to favor vague, pretentious color names that are more about sophistication than clarity. A friend of mine recently painted her living room a shade called “Braised Mushroom,” and honestly, I’m at a loss to visualize that color. Is it a murky brown with hints of pink? Perhaps a soft gray? Either way, it’s hard to say it sounds inviting.
It’s time, dear mothers, to indulge ourselves with a brand-new crayon box, specially curated for us. Not only will these crayons be whole and intact—not reduced to tiny bits that can barely be held—but we can also assign them names that resonate with our unique experiences.
