The Biden administration has secured enough pediatric COVID-19 vaccine doses to potentially immunize 28 million children, bringing hope to parents eager to protect their kids. According to recent reports, the White House convened a call with governors nationwide, advising them to gear up for the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 starting in early November. Although the FDA is still reviewing Pfizer’s pediatric vaccine for emergency use authorization, the approval process is expected to progress quickly, similar to previous age groups.

For the 12 and older demographic, which became eligible back in August, only about 43 percent have been vaccinated, according to recent data.

The FDA has committed to thoroughly evaluating all safety data before issuing approval. “We understand that children are not just smaller versions of adults, and we will carefully assess the clinical trial data before making any decisions,” announced Acting FDA Commissioner Lisa Green earlier this month. A meeting on the approval process is scheduled for October 26th.
Despite COVID-19 being less severe in children than in adults, the virus has still claimed hundreds of young lives.
