Yay for girl dads! Jax Thompson was a total “mess” as he watched his daughter Lila’s performance in Euphoria. The director couldn’t be prouder, and it’s simply heartwarming.
In an interview on the red carpet at the 74th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, Thompson shared his overwhelming emotions about Lila’s role as Lexi on the HBO series. “I’m just a mess,” Thompson admitted, reflecting on how deeply he felt while watching her act. “I was crying and just so moved… I can’t wait to see it again because it was really touching the first time, both because of the show and how incredible she was.”
Now in its second season, Euphoria has garnered numerous nominations and awards, including an Emmy for Zendaya as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. While Thompson wasn’t being honored at the ceremony he hosted, he took the opportunity to promote his daughter’s remarkable series. Many parents might find some of the show’s themes concerning, but Thompson is no stranger to his daughter tackling challenging roles.
Having directed Lila in his films Knocked Up (2007) and This Is 40 (2012), he even had her deliver some hilariously mature jokes. In those films, she played the daughter of Leslie Mann, her real-life mom and Thompson’s wife. Although Lila’s acting journey began under her father’s guidance, she has since branched out with smaller roles in HBO’s Girls. In 2019, she secured her role as Lexi in Euphoria, along with appearing in films like The King of Staten Island (2020), where she played Pete Davidson’s younger sister.
Like any proud dad, Thompson is just thrilled to see his daughter thriving. “It’s always a joy to see your kids succeed and find their passion,” he remarked, adding that he and Mann are overjoyed that “she’s pursuing what she loves and doing an outstanding job.”
