In a recent announcement, Gerber shared, “As Gerber’s newest Chief Growing Officer (CGO), Ava’s main job is to spread joy through her contagious smile, delightful giggles, and her charming personality.” The announcement was made live on TODAY, where hosts chatted with her parents, Emily and Jake, revealing that Ava had won the contest.
“She’s a resilient little girl who loves engaging with the world. Nothing can hold her back,” Emily told TODAY. “Her smile lights up every room, and her laughter is simply irresistible.” Ava enjoys playing with her plush hippo toy and spending time with her older sister, Lily, who is 4. She has a fondness for raspberries, being rocked by her mom, and feeling the fresh breeze on her face. Her parents aspire for Ava’s story to promote diversity and inclusion.
“Before Ava was born in September 2021, we knew she was exceptional, and she continues to show us that every day,” Emily explained on the Gerber website. “When I was 18 weeks pregnant, we learned that Ava would be born without a femur or fibula in her right leg. We hope her journey can raise awareness about limb differences and foster greater inclusion for children like her. Just like Ava, they can achieve anything!”
This year, the Gerber Baby Photo Search received over 225,000 entries from children under 4 years old in the United States and Puerto Rico. The winner is awarded $25,000, which will be reserved for Ava’s medical expenses. “What makes this so special for us is that she was selected not only for her cheerful personality, but also as a representation of diversity,” Emily shared with TODAY. “We are thrilled that she can help raise awareness for children born with limb differences.”
