Five Ways Stay-at-Home Moms Spend Excessive Time Online

Ever wonder what stay-at-home moms do throughout the day? Beyond the responsibilities of child-rearing, maintaining cleanliness, and tackling endless piles of laundry, many of us find ourselves wandering the Internet. And when I say wandering, I truly mean losing countless hours to various distractions. Here are five notable culprits:
- Engaging in Facebook Drama: Nothing quite breaks the monotony of the day like watching a good Facebook feud (especially when you’re not directly involved). While I should probably be appalled by adults airing their grievances publicly, I find it hard to look away. With a glass of wine in hand, I’ll refresh that feed repeatedly, eager to catch the latest exchanges. Aunt Betty just called her niece a “mess” over a poorly lit selfie? Pass the popcorn, please!
- Browsing Amazon’s Infinite Aisles: What did we do before the convenience of online shopping? The thought of dressing up and physically going into a store feels like a relic of the past. Need a simple pen? Amazon has over 400,000 options ranging from budget-friendly to “I might have to mortgage my house!”
- Delving into Comment Sections (The Wild West of Opinions): There’s no shortage of negativity when it comes to online discussions. Whether it’s a photo of your child or a meticulously researched article, the comments section often turns into a battleground of ignorance and arrogance. One moment, you’re shocked at the sheer stupidity of some comments, and the next, you’re astounded that someone would voice such a thought. This emotional rollercoaster can consume your time faster than you realize.
- Getting Sidetracked on Instagram: Instagram can become a rabbit hole that’s hard to escape. You start by searching for a specific hashtag, and before you know it, you’ve spent an hour scrolling through a barrage of selfies and pet photos. You might even find yourself intimately familiar with every outfit that celebrity Jamie Smith has worn over the past three years – and the designers behind them.
- Analyzing the Advice of Internet Trolls: Online platforms are rife with unsolicited advice from self-proclaimed experts. Post something innocuous, like “I just accidentally hit a squirrel with my car!!!” and watch as individuals rush to provide “solutions.” From natural remedies to vehicle recommendations, everyone seems to have an opinion. And don’t even think about sharing a picture of the incident; you’ll likely be met with tales of how your 13-year-old should still be in a rear-facing seat, along with a critique of your mirror positioning.
While I’m not claiming that my online habits are the sole cause of my laundry room looking like a tornado struck, they certainly contribute. But hey, no regrets here! In summary, while the Internet can provide a welcome distraction for stay-at-home moms, it can also lead to time-wasting habits that detract from our daily responsibilities.
