Last night, I treated myself to an indulgently warm bath, picked up a new novel, and poured a glass of exquisite wine. I adorned my face with a rejuvenating mud mask and savored a fleeting six minutes of solitude before a child’s wail echoed from the other end of the house. Despite my husband being present, it seems my children believe I possess some magical ability to fulfill their every whim if only they rattle my nerves enough.
“Sure, you can leap off the couch onto the dog.”
“Absolutely, you can devour all the ice cream.”
“Of course, you can binge-watch TV until your eyes resemble bloodshot saucers.”
I harbor no guilt in the least as I daydream about the moment my little ones are tucked away, sound asleep in their rooms upstairs. Why? Because once they’re tucked in, I find a brief opportunity to relish in my own version of relaxation before the inevitable cycle of cleaning and preparing for another day of prioritizing their needs begins again.
In the spirit of embracing these fleeting moments of joy, here are my 30 guilty pleasures as a mom:
- Enjoying a glass of wine. (obviously)
- Savoring a slice of cake. (of course)
- Taking at least an hour to not tidy up anything.
