There’s something about having perfectly polished nails that makes me feel put together. While I love treating myself to an occasional salon manicure, I usually prefer to do my nails at home and save my cash for other things. Plus, how many times have you painted your nails only to have them chip within just two days or smudge because you’re a busy mom with no time to wait for them to dry?
If you haven’t yet tried gel nail polish, now might be the perfect time. With just one or two steps (depending on the brand), you can achieve a beautiful manicure without the hassle of UV light. Gel nails are a hit because they tend to last longer and offer a glossy finish.
I decided to test out three gel polishes that promised quick-drying, long-lasting wear, and that salon-fresh look. The results were pleasantly surprising, and I’m eager to share them with you.
1. Color Club One Step Gel Polish
First up was Color Club’s One Step Gel Polish in “Red Alert,” priced under $7. I was feeling adventurous and applied it right in my car while waiting for a friend. To my amazement, by the time she arrived, my nails were dry in about five minutes—no smudging at all! I was doubtful that a budget-friendly polish could last, but after five days of wrapping gifts and managing my daily tasks, there was no chipping. Even after a week, it only wore down slightly at the tips. I’m a fan!
2. Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy
Next, I tried Revlon’s ColorStay Gel Envy, which involves a two-step application process. I used the shade “Plum Fizz” and applied two coats of color followed by the top coat. While Revlon claims this polish can last up to 11 days, I found that by day seven, it began to chip. I didn’t do any heavy-duty activities, but I could have easily added another coat to extend its life. Overall, it provided a nice shine that drew compliments, but at around $10 for the duo, I might lean towards more affordable options.
3. OPI GelColor
Lastly, I tested OPI’s GelColor in “Ballet Slippers,” which was the priciest at $18. I loved the applicator brush that allowed for smooth application. This polish also boasted a gel-like shine and claimed to last up to two weeks. However, by day six, I experienced noticeable chipping, which was disappointing given the cost. OPI does offer a clear gel top coat you can purchase separately to give any color a glossy finish.
In conclusion, it’s clear that you don’t always need to spend a lot of money to achieve great results. The Color Club polish held its own against pricier brands like Revlon and OPI, making it my go-to from now on. With its one-step application, affordability, and variety of colors, it’s a no-brainer for anyone looking to keep their nails looking fabulous!
