Rating: 4.5 stars
When it comes to car seats, they essentially consist of two main parts: the car seat itself and the base. If you’re a car owner, you’ll likely utilize both components, as they work together seamlessly. While it’s possible to use the car seat without the base by securing it with the vehicle’s seat belt, many prefer the base for the convenience of easy installation.
My previous experience with another brand’s infant car seat was a nightmare—imagine sweating and swearing while trying to secure the base in our minivan. Most parents can relate to the daunting task of maneuvering into that mysterious space behind the seat pan to find the anchors. The search usually involves digging through a treasure trove of loose change and forgotten snacks, which is not fun at all. Thankfully, the B-Safe has a much more user-friendly design that makes installation a breeze.
Features
The Britax B-Safe comes equipped with two push-button lower latch connectors on either side of the base. With a simple push, you can insert these connectors into the seat cushion pan, and the red button makes it easy to snap the closure onto the anchors—all without having to fumble around blindly. I managed to install the base in under five minutes!
Once the base is secure, we checked the level indicators on both sides. If the green bar isn’t aligned, you can adjust the base to one of five different positions. However, adjusting the base can be a little stiff, and we almost pinched our fingers in the process.
After the base was set, installing the car seat was equally straightforward. It clicks in with a satisfying sound, confirming that it’s securely locked. When it’s time to remove it, there’s a handle behind the headrest that you just pull. The seat also features a standard five-point safety harness recommended by CPSafety. Although Britax claims their wide straps are tangle-free, ours did end up getting twisted from time to time.
Safety is a top priority with the B-Safe, which is why it has been designed with multiple protective features.
