Many first-time parents may not see a baby swing as an essential item. It’s bulky, can be pricey, and a common concern is, “What if my baby doesn’t like it?” I can tell you that investing in this Fisher-Price swing was one of the most beneficial decisions we made when our second child arrived.

For our first child, we borrowed an older Fisher-Price swing from a friend, and our son adored it. However, I didn’t fully grasp the value of a baby swing until our daughter came along. During her first eight weeks, she refused to sleep unless someone was holding her. This was exhausting, especially for two sleep-deprived parents balancing the needs of a lively 2-year-old! After weeks of nonstop holding, we decided to try swaddling her and placing her in the swing at one of the highest settings. (Note: The manufacturer advises that this swing should not replace a crib or bassinet and shouldn’t be used for extended periods of sleep.) Within minutes, she stopped crying and drifted off to sleep. She napped for two whole hours without moving a muscle. For me, it was the first chance to rest my arms in weeks!

Features

Setting up and using this swing is a breeze, but it comes with a variety of customizable options. It boasts six speed settings; however, we didn’t notice a significant difference among them. Initially, we found the slowest speed a bit too fast, but our baby preferred a quicker swing, so it worked out fine. Thanks to the SmartSwing technology, the swing adjusts its speed based on the baby’s weight, ensuring a consistent motion without needing to push it. The seat can rotate into three different positions: facing forward (swinging side to side) or to either side (swinging front to back). Additionally, it offers two recline positions, which can be adjusted easily with a button under the seat. Our daughter enjoyed lying flatter when she was smaller, but as she grew, she preferred a more upright position to observe her surroundings.
