Emma Bell, a former runway model turned entrepreneur, has always been in the spotlight. However, her journey took a new direction when she became a mother. As she navigated the challenges of pregnancy, she realized the importance of self-care and the need for products that are safe for both moms and their little ones. This sparked the launch of her skincare line, CocoBaba, which focuses on clean ingredients for expectant mothers.
Interview with Lauren Kay
Lauren Kay: You’ve often mentioned how rediscovering coconut oil during your pregnancies led to the creation of CocoBaba. What was the most challenging part of that journey for you?
Emma Bell: The toughest aspect was transforming my vision for a clean, trustworthy product into reality. This was around a decade ago, during the early days of the clean beauty movement, and I was diving into a field I didn’t know much about. Handing over my ideas to a formulator was nerve-wracking, especially since I wanted to ensure the end product met my standards. Eventually, I took my ideas to Germany, where I knew I could get the formulations aligned with EU regulations.
Lauren Kay: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from starting this business? Would you do anything differently if you could?
Emma Bell: Honestly, I didn’t have a business background, and I’m still learning something new every day. My biggest takeaway has been the importance of seeking help and guidance from friends and colleagues when needed. There’s strength in reaching out.
Lauren Kay: Sustainability is a core value for CocoBaba. How do you integrate this into your daily operations?
Emma Bell: We prioritize simplicity and reducing our overall footprint. Selling directly to consumers allows us to eliminate unnecessary packaging, which significantly cuts down on waste. Our manufacturing and fulfillment are located close to each other, both in the USA and Germany, ensuring that sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do.
Lauren Kay: Do you have a favorite product from your line?
Emma Bell: Absolutely! It has to be our Coconut Body Oil. That was the first product I truly felt was essential for moms.
