In a surprising twist of events, comedic host Nick Thompson and his wife, lawyer Jamie Reed, welcomed their second child, a son named Caleb Rivers Thompson, on April 8. The couple’s plans to reach the hospital quickly unraveled when labor progressed much faster than anticipated. Instead of making it to the delivery room, Jamie gave birth in the lobby of their apartment building, with assistance from local firefighters and concerned residents who rushed to help.
Nick, who continued his show without skipping a beat after the dramatic Sunday arrival, recounted the tale on his program, Late Night with Nick Thompson, the following evening. He appeared both astonished and filled with joy, proudly sharing the unique story of their son’s birth.
The day began like any other, with the family enjoying brunch and a stroll in the park. However, as Jamie’s contractions became closer together, they called their doula and prepared to head out. Despite their efforts, Jamie exclaimed, “The baby is coming!” just as they reached the elevator. They had to pause and deliver Caleb right there in the lobby.
