In an exciting opportunity for avocado lovers, researchers from multiple prestigious universities are offering participants the chance to get paid while enjoying this delicious fruit. Yes, you heard that right! For a duration of six months, individuals will be compensated to consume one avocado daily.

The study, titled The Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial, is being conducted by teams from Loma Linda University, Penn State, Tufts University, and UCLA. They are seeking 1,000 individuals to assess whether incorporating avocados into the diet can lead to weight loss. This sounds like a dream come true, especially in a time when good news seems scarce.

Known for being rich in heart-healthy fats and packed with essential vitamins—such as C, E, K, and B-6—avocados have also been shown to help lower bad cholesterol levels. However, with each avocado containing over 200 calories and 21 grams of fat, there’s skepticism about their weight-loss benefits. Researchers from Loma Linda University have pointed out that it appears counterintuitive for such a fatty fruit to aid in reducing belly fat. Nevertheless, the study aims to investigate this very possibility.

Study Details

Participants, who must be at least 25 years old, not pregnant or trying to conceive, and have a waist measurement of 35 to 40 inches (depending on gender), will be divided into two groups. One group will consume one avocado daily for six months, while the control group is limited to a maximum of two avocados each month. This raises the question: how can one truly enjoy avocados if they are stuck with only two in 30 days?

All participants will receive $300 upon completion of the study, and the control group will be gifted 24 avocados to enjoy at their leisure—hopefully not all at once! Once the data is collected, Wake Forest University will analyze the results to determine the effects of avocado consumption on weight loss.

Best of luck to all those participating. An avocado toast gathering at your place might be in order soon!
