If you’re a fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and on the lookout for a new comedy, you won’t want to miss Young Rock, an upcoming NBC sitcom premiering next month that dives into The Rock’s life story. Created and produced by Johnson himself, the show offers a creative retelling of his journey from modest beginnings to global stardom. The show traces Johnson’s life from childhood through high school, where he humorously recalls being accused of being an undercover cop at 15 because of his towering height of 6’4” and 220 pounds, complete with a Magnum PI mustache and his own car. In one of his Instagram posts, The Rock shared some unbelievable true stories that will be featured in the series, including how he once managed to convince someone to sell him a car for just $40 and his struggle with a staggering .7 GPA during freshman year, which landed him on academic probation. Covering his journey from high school to college football, wrestling, and eventually Hollywood, it seems like there could be a hundred seasons worth of content.
“I can’t wait to make you and your families laugh a little and share the life lessons I’ve learned along the way,” Johnson expressed in an Instagram post, adding that he wishes his late father could see how he’s honored their family’s experiences on screen.
The first glimpse of Young Rock was revealed during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade when NBC showcased a gigantic balloon that resembled The Rock as he looked in 1990. It was quite the sight!
Produced alongside his ex-wife, Dany Garcia, the show features an adorable actor portraying a young version of Johnson. Described as The Rock’s comedic “origin story,” Young Rock will debut on NBC on February 16, 2020.
